Don't underestimate the psychological effects of colours in your photos

Colour shapes first impressions before conscious thought begins.

When someone looks at your photo, they will feel something emotionally before they understand the full, logical picture.

To increase emotional impact, you can colour tint your photos for faster results.

Warm Colours

Warm colours are often associated with feelings of safety, calmness and emotional closeness. Think yellow and orange tinting.

Cold Colours

Cold colours are often associated with feelings of distance, loneliness and emptiness. Think blue and magenta tinting.

Example of a yellow-tinted photo:

I processed a blue / magenta tint in Lightoom on the same photo for a different emotional result:

The results show two identical photos, except for a colour tint difference. This produces two different emotional renditions.

Remember: a good photo isn't just about how you take the photo with your camera.

It's also about finishing it well with editing.
