YOUR PHONE PHOTOGRAPHY

with Gabrielle Touchette

Product photography can either make or break an online business. A good photo will draw a crowd. An average photo will make your products forgettable.

So how do you make your phone camera work for YOUR product photos?

By using Lightroom editing to make your photos look as enticing as possible.

NOTE: If you don't yet have Lightroom Mobile installed on your phone, do it now! It's free. Here's how.

Let's look at an unedited product photo compared to an edited product photo:

Straight out of camera

Edited in Lightroom Mobile

If your photos look dull, your customers are not likely to stop and admire. Much less buy.

Photos straight out of camera almost ALWAYS look dull. You might not really notice it.

But once you start editing, you see why every professional phone photographer edits their photos.

So here's what Lightroom editing did for me in the coffee bean photo:

  • the Blacks slider instantly made my photo pop by increasing the darks and colour. In a fraction of a second, my photo looked much richer.
  • the Vibrance slider saves me from applying a tacky amount of colour to the photo. It makes sure to protect photos from that amateur look.
  • the Vignetting tool allows me to bring attention to my subject by drawing the eye in.
  • the Masking tool lets me fix lighting issues I had at the photo shoot. It helps my photo reach its max potential in a huge way.
  • the Colour adjustment tool lets me control specific colouring (like in the bag) without damaging the rest of the photo.

With Lightroom, YOU ARE IN CONTROL.

It provides you with all the freedom of customization so that you never have to rely on auto filters, tacky editing trends or blind luck.

And the best part? You can create your presets.

Watch the exact steps I took to edit this coffee been photo:

Good photography doesn't stop at the photo shoot. It continues with editing. And as an artist and a creator, your photography work is just as important in camera as it is in the editing.

If you don't yet have Lightroom Mobile on your phone, I'll show you how to install it on your phone here.

Happy custom editing!
